A founding member of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Mr. Kofi Mintah, has empathised with the former President Flt Lt John Jerry Rawlings and his family on the loss of property when fire gutted their residence on Sunday.
Mr. Mintah said it was most unfortunate that the property which the former first couple and children took many years to acquire under difficult
conditions could be swept away by fire in just a few hours.
He urged them to take consolation from what happened to Job, the biblical character, who prayed that the Almighty God who is the giver of all
good things would replenish them with all that they have lost in three folds.
Mr. Mintah appealed to the government to replace the electrical cables in all government buildings and structures which had been wired over 50 years ago.
He said the rampant fire outbreaks the country had been experiencing these days must be a concern for all for us to become watchdogs on government property.
He further urged the government to resource the Ghana National Fire Service with tenders to enable them to go on patrol duties in some selected
areas for early detection of household fires.
