Veteran Malayalam actor Thilakan has lodged a complaint with police, claiming he got death threat for his recent outbursts against superstars.
In a complaint filed with the Alappuzha police Friday,Thilakan said he received a call from the Gulf stating that a gang had been engaged to "finish him off" within a week if he did not stop his utterances against superstars.
Thilakan said the call came when he was having dinner at a hotel in Alappuzha at around 10 pm. Police said the actor came to the station last night to file the complaint.
Association of Malayalam Movie Artistes (AMMA) has given a show-cause notice to Thilakan for his comments against superstars and warned of disciplinary action if his reply was not satisfactory.
Thilakan told PTI here that he was drafting a reply to AMMA's notice. "It is ironic that they gave me the notice after deciding the punishment," he said.
"Cinema, which should be a cultural activity, has turned out to be the playing field of mafias. Several viewers have expressed solidarity with me in this fight through SMS and e-mails," he said.
Thilakan had earlier alleged that Film Employees Federation of Kerala (FEFKA) and AMMA had imposed an undeclared ban on him for acting in a film directed by Vinayan, bete noire of the film outfits.
The row started when Thilakan was denied a role in the Malayalam superstar Mohanlal starrer 'Christian Brothers', for which he had been booked, allegedly at the instance of FEFKA.
