The Gomoa Ajumako Traditional Council in the Central Region has appointed Mr Thomas Kweku Aubyn as its Legal Adviser and Spokesperson.
The Council has also charged Mr Aubyn, a former Member of Parliament for Gomoa East to document lands in the area to separate stool from family lands.
Speaking at the swearing-in ceremony of the Legal Adviser at Gomoa Ajumako at the weekend, Obrempon Nyanful Krampah XI, the Omanhen of the
area, advised chiefs to avoid going to court to fight land and other cases.
"The courts are not pleasant places for chiefs to be patrolling", Obrempon Krampah said, and added that "as much as possible let us avoid the dock to resolve such cases."
He advised chiefs to explore the Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) mechanism in getting cases resolved.
He charged Mr Aubyn to ensure that chiefs channelled their cases through the Traditional Council and announced that the Traditional Court
would soon be convened to deal with cases in the area.
Obrempon advised the new Legal Adviser to resist being influenced and urged him to be fair and firm in handling cases.
Nana Akyere Ampim, Queenmother of the Traditional Area, and Nana Kojo Bedu V, Benkumhene took turns to advise the Legal Adviser to do and not to do to bring honour to the area.
Mr Aubyn in acceptance speech described the appointment as a challenge. He said he would make chieftaincy litigations which were the bane of
the area's development a priority.
He appealed to the government to resolve boundary dispute between the traditional area and that of Effutu once and for all.
Mr Aubyn called for cooperation from the chiefs to make his administration a success.
Nana Abonyi-Kwata II, Esiehen of the Traditional Area, formally swore the Legal Adviser into office.
