Four rockets fired by militants hit a building hired to accommodate the U.S. Consulate in Herat city, the capital of Herat province in west Afghanistan on Friday, police said.
"The rocket attacks on the U.S. Consulate in Herat city occurred at 9:30 p.m. local time and smashed windowpanes in the third and fourth
floors," Deputy to provincial police chief Dilawar Shah Dilawar told Xinhua.
He also added that there were some foreign nationals inside the building during the attack but did not say if there were any casualties.
The U.S. embassy to Afghanistan hired a hotel in Herat city to open its consulate in west Afghanistan. The embassy would also open its consulate in Afghanistan's northern Mazar city within months.
