At least six protesters were killed and scores injured when clashes erupted in Bangladesh Thursday after a court sentenced an Islamist party leader to death for war crimes, media reports said.
Activists of the Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami party went on the rampage and clashed with police in different parts of the country, the Independent television channel reported.
Police fired their guns in Chittagong in the south and the Sirajganj, Rangpur and Dinajpur districts in the north as protesters clashed with them, resulting in the deaths of six activists from Jamaat's student wing Islami Chhatra Shibir, the report said, quoting the police.
Protesters set fire to a railway bridge, causing the suspension of trains between the capital, Dhaka, and Chittagong, the report said.
