South African police were caught on mobile phone footage dragging a suspect behind their vehicle who then died, the Daily Sun newspaper reported Thursday.
The footage showed police handcuffing the man, identified as Mido Macia and said to be a taxi driver, to the back of their official vehicle. He was then dragged for about 500 metres.
According to the report, the man later died at a police station. The incident took place in Daveyton, east of Johannesburg.
The man, a Mozambican national, had reportedly gotten into an altercation with the officers.
Large crowds are seen in the footage gathering around the police vehicle as the man is being tied up and then dragged.
