The 1963 Year Group of the Old Achimotans Association (OAA) on Thursday organised a lecture to remember Mr Kwegyir Aggrey, Alexander Fraser and Gordon Guggisberg, Founding Fathers of the School in Accra.
This lecture was part of activities line up for the 86th Founders Day Celebration of Achimota School Founders Day and the OAA 1963 Year Group Golden Anniversary Celebration.
The activities include the inauguration, dedication and handing over ceremony of the Group's science block project, Cadet Corps Parade, Founders Day Durbar, Thanks Giving Service and A Colloquium on Science.
The theme for the celebration is: "Repositioning Science at Achimota School for Ghana's Competitiveness in the 21st Century.
Mr K. B. Asante, A Former Diplomat said Ghanaian are notorious of remembering the past and that the lecture would tell the history of the founding fathers of the School.
He said the founding fathers of the Achimota School were encouraging critical thinking in the country's educational sector.
Mr Asante said education in the Gold Coast was nothing to write about and that the educational sector of Ghana should be develop through healthy reforms.
He said the country's educational standard is falling hence the need for Government to take a critical look to reverse the situation.
Mr Asante said it is unfortunate that Ghanaians are agreeing and disagreeing for and against the three and four year term of the Senior High School which has nothing to do with the performance of students.
He noted that expanding the country's educational infrastructure was important and that Government should collaborate with the private sector to expand educational infrastructure.
Mr Asante said schools under trees are not a major problem that could affect the performance of students, adding that, teaching and learning materials are the most important issues in the progress of students.
Reverend Dr Joyce Aryee, Class President of the Group and the Executive Director of the Salt and Light Ministries said students of Achimota should not forget the Founders of the School.
She said teaching of science and technology is important in the country's educational structure and the day to day activities of "our lives which needs to be encouraged".
