Troubled U.S. country singer Mindy McCready was found dead of an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound Sunday afternoon at her Arkansas home, authorities said. Police officers were dispatched to McCready's home in Heber Springs, Ark., at 3:31 p.m. Sunday, after receiving a report of gunshots fired, the Cleburne County Sheriff's Office said in a statement.
Officers found the body of McCready, 37, on the front porch of the home, according to the sheriff's office. "Ms. McCready was pronounced dead at the scene from what appears to be a single self-inflicted gunshot wound," the sheriff's office said. McCready's body will be transported to the Arkansas State Crime Lab for an autopsy and the death will be fully investigated.
McCready earlier made headlines after her longtime boyfriend David Wilson, a record producer, was found dead of a self-inflicted gunshot wound last month. Authorities discovered the body of Wilson, the father of McCready's 9-month-old son, on the same porch where they discovered the troubled singer's on Sunday. Wilson's death was also investigated as a suicide. McCready entered court-ordered rehab after Wilson's death and had three previous suicide attempts, according to U.S. media reports.
Her song, "Guys Do It All the Time" hit Number one in 1996, and its dig at male chauvinism endeared her to females. Other hits by McCready included "Ten Thousand Angels," also in 1996, and her album by that title sold 2 million copies.
