An explosion Wednesday at a suspected bomb-making facility in north-western Pakistan killed at least five militants, an intelligence official said.
Three others were also injured in the blast in Jandre Kalay area of Orakzai tribal district, the official said on condition of anonymity.
The identities of those killed was not immediately known, but Taliban-linked militants are known to have hideouts in Orakzai.
Homemade bombs triggered remotely have become one of their favourite weapons against military and other targets.
Elsewehere, an Afghan allegedly linked to the killings of several Taliban figures was found dead near a market in Wana, the main town in South Waziristan tribal district, security and local sources said.
They said Asmat Ullah was believed to have been involved in the death of Taliban commander Maulvi Nazir, who was killed by a US drone strike this month.
It was not immediately clear who killed Ullah, but Nazir's supporters have a strong presence in the region.
Independent confirmation of incidents in the tribal region is difficult to get because it is off-limits to journalists.
