Sean 'Diddy' Combs' sentencing hearing is today, Friday, Oct. 3. His sentence will dictate how much longer he will remain behind bars, now that he has been jailed for 13 months.
Ahead of the sentencing, Diddy begged U.S. District Judge Arun Subramanian to have mercy on him.
"I am so sorry for the hurt that I caused, but I understand that the mere words ‘I’m sorry’ will never be good enough as these words alone cannot erase the pain from the past," Combs wrote in the letter filed in court on Thursday, Oct. 2.
"I lost my way. I got lost in my journey. Lost in the drugs and the excess. My downfall was rooted in my selfishness," he added.
This was the first time the entertainment mogul addressed the judge, as he did not testify during his eight-week trial.
Previously, Combs' legal team had requested that the court overturn the convictions for transporting people to engage in prostitution saying that escorts were paid to have sex with Diddy's girlfriends not with Diddy himself. They argued that the events should be considered voyeurism, not prostitution.
However, U.S. District Judge Arun Subramanian rejected the petition saying that "the correct definition of prostitution in the Mann Act is sex in exchange for money or its equivalent."
Cassi Ventura, one of Diddy's ex-girlfriends who testified in court, sent a letter to Subramanian asking the judge to consider her and other victims' experiences.
"The entire courtroom watched actual footage of Combs kicking and beating me as I tried to run away from a freak off in 2016. People watched this footage dozens of times, seeing my body thrown to the ground, my hands over my head, curled into a fetal position to shield me from the worst blows," she wrote
"Although I can hope for justice and accountability, I have come to not trust anything," she added.
Here's what is coming next:
Sean Combs’ sentencing is scheduled for Friday morning, Oct. 3, 2025 at 10 a.m. His hearing might last hours as it might include testimonials from family, victims and attorneys.
Combs is currently still in jail after the court denied him bail ahead of his sentencing. He is being held at the Metropolitan Detention Center in Brooklyn. He's been jailed for nearly 13 months now.
Combs was convicted on two counts of transporting individuals to engage in prostitution. Each counts carries a maximum penalty of 10 years. He could face up to 20 years in prison.
However, he may serve considerably less than 20 years.
Former federal prosecutor Mitchell Epner told the Associated Press that he predicts a sentence of 24 to 30 months.
Prosecutors are asking for 11 years citing instances of violence and intimidation testified on trial.
“His crimes of conviction are serious and have warranted sentences over ten years in multiple cases for defendants who, like Sean Combs, engaged in violence and put others in fear,” prosecutors wrote in a sentencing statement.
On the other hand, while Comb's attorneys had said they expected no more than 27 months, defense attorneys are now asking for no time in prison at all, arguing that Combs has already reformed while in jail.
Combs' legal team is now trying to get help from some of the escorts that attended his parties. According to Business Insider, defense attorneys are arguing that escorts gave prosecutors interviews that were never released and that they could be helpful for Comb's case.
Aside from his criminal case, Combs is also facing over 80 civil lawsuits stemming from allegations of drugging, sexual assault, and coercion. People can't go to prison because of civil lawsuits. These lawsuits may result in Combs having to pay money to cover damages.
