Ghanaian musician Kuami Eugene has announced that he will be donating all royalties from his cover of the late Omar B's hit song, "AWOO Mawugbe" to the family of the deceased artist.
The decision is seen as a gesture of respect and solidarity with Omar B's loved ones, and a nod to the impact the song had on his own music career, which encouraged him to do a rendition of his popular song, Awoo Mawugbe.
Kuami Eugene credits a friend with introducing him to Omar B's music, which resonated with him due to their shared creative talents in writing, singing, and producing.
As he learned more about Omar B, Kuami Eugene discovered that the artist had passed away at the peak of his career, leaving behind a young family.
Moved by this, Kuami Eugene decided to record a cover of Omar B's song "Awoo Mawugbe", a track that had been on his mind, and pledged to donate the proceeds to Omar B's family.
“After I got the translation of the song from some friends, I realised he had put together some powerful lyrics, so I decided to do a rendition in his honour,” he said.
