As part of her commitment to the industry that has supported her growth, popular Ghanaian gospel singer, Obaapa Christy has launched a contest dubbed, ‘Sing Like Obaapa’ to unearth and support three up and coming gospel artistes.
The contest forms part of the second anniversary celebration of Obaapa’s eatery, Obaapa Sen. Hence, the contestants will perform at the anniversary event to take place at the restaurant, next to Fisherman’s house at Odorkor - Kaneshie on Monday, August 5, 2024.
The W’agye Me singer started preparations for the contest with invite for interested participants to send in their works few weeks ago.
On Monday, participants will face off, performing Obaapa Christy's songs for two minutes each, with six contestants making the cut.
The competition intensifies in the second round, where five finalists will sing their chosen songs to demonstrate their skills.
An expert judging panel, consisting of Noble Neketia, Fred Kyei Mensah, and Reverend Josephine Agyei, will then choose the top three winners.
According to Obaapa Christy’s manager, Nana Kwame Darkwah, these three winners will have a special recording offer from the gospel musician.
“Obaapa Christy’s management will write songs for the three winners, and will help them to record with a music producer of their choice,” he said.
Obaapa who has been in the music industry for over two decades is known for songs like 'W'agye Me', 'Yare Yeya', 'Onto Nko', 'Ma Enye Yie', and 'The Glory'.
The Meti Ase hit singer was a recipient of Gospel Artist of the Year and Song of the Year Awards at the 2007 edition of Ghana Music Awards.
In 2008, she was among a number of creatives conferred with a National honour by former president, John Agyekum Kufuor.
