Céline Dion’s life is set to be made into a biopic, Variety has revealed exclusively. The movie, titled The Power of Love, will reportedly have a $23 million budget and will be made by French studio Gaumont.
Valérie Lemercier is slated to both direct and star in the movie as Dion. Lemercier is a 54-year-old French actress, writer and singer who has a lengthy film and singing career dating back to 1989.
The Power of Love will chronicle Dion’s rise to fame, from a shy French-Canadian girl to one of the most successful singers of all time. It will also explore her evolving relationship with her manager and husband, the late René Angélil, whom she began working with when she was just 12 years old.
Cecile Gaget of Gaumont studio said that the movie would be in a similar vein of other recent biopic films, such as Bohemian Rhapsody about Freddie Mercury, and the upcoming Rocketman about Elton John.
Gaget confirmed that Dion had given permission for the film to use her full catalog of songs. The film’s soundtrack will include Dion classics “My Heart Will Go On,” “All By Myself” and “I’m Alive.”

Lemercier said she was profoundly moved by Dion’s grief for her husband, who died of cancer in 2016.
“I discovered the strength of their love story and their great humor, and I better understood how the alchemy of their three individual ambitions made an unwanted, little girl the greatest star on the planet,” she said.
The film is scheduled for a French release date of Dec. 2, 2020.
