The week in which big man Idris Elba launched his own "little indie label", Cheryl and Liam officially announced their split and Sir Macca released new tour dates.
Plus we discovered how Newbie Tuesday artist Aeris Roves went from The Drifters to Frank Ocean.
But none of those made it past the early rounds of this week's competition.
Here's the top five in the end of week rankings:
1) Looks like Matty Healy's dad is on his new album
The 1975 singer's old man Tim Healy has tweeted that a song he wrote 20 years ago will be on the band's next album.
The band have already shared Give Yourself a Try, from their upcoming third album. Matty said they actually have two albums in the works, the second of which could be released in May 2019.
We don't know exactly where the father/son duet will go yet or what it will sound like.
But we really hope it's a synth-driven cover of Thats Living Alright, from Auf Weidersehen, Pet, which Tim starred in... as those of you old enough to remember will know.
2) Moses Sumney cancelled a show in protest at slave musical
On Tuesday, we reported the LA singer-songwriter had pulled out of a forthcoming performance at the Montreal Jazz Festival in Canada in protest at another show on the bill which featured white performers singing African-American slave songs.
Directed by Robert Lepage and featuring singer Betti Bonifassi (both white), SLAV, described by the festival as “a theatrical odyssey based on slave songs”, has been subject to protests, with one black protester claiming to have been slapped in the face by a white theatregoer.
In a statement on Twitter, Moses said: "When I learned that the festival continued to defend this show publicly... I knew that I could not present my music at this same festival in good conscience."
The festival has since
cancelled the remaining performances of SLAV.
3) Music stars went crazy for England's historic World Cup penalty shootout win
Robbie Williams, Little Mix's Jade and The Rolling Stones' Ronnie Wood were all in a patriotic mood this week following England's first ever World Cup shootout win over Colombia.
Gareth Southgate's men take on Sweden on Saturday in the quarter-final so we hope Newcastle fan Jade has that Three Lions shirt ready, as promised.
Wolf Alice even changed their band name on Twitter from Harry Kane the Band to Jordan Pickford the Band, in honour of England's heroic goalkeeper.
Stormzy briefly paused his Merky Festival show in Ibiza to watch Tuesday night's penalty drama unfold. As Eric Dier's winning penalty hit the net the grime star burst straight into his breakout hit, Big For Yer Boots.
No-one is too big for the boot in Russia though, as Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi discovered to their cost last week.
Whatever happens this weekend, its seems the England fans' favourite, Three Lions, won't return to number one, despite our best efforts.

5) Chance the Rapper is engaged
“Will you make me a man and be my wife?”
That's how a shirtless Chance The Rapper proposed to his long-term girlfriend Kirsten Corley at a 4th of July barbecue.
The moment was captured on video and posted on Instagram by hip-hop gossip site The Shade Room and you can check it above.
We love a happy ending to the week here on MNL.
Now, can anyone recommend a decent tailors in Chicago? You know, just in case...
