The performance christened the “2018 Easter Cantata Classical Music Festival,” brought together personality such as Most Reverend Charles Palmer Buckle, the Metropolitan Archbishop of Accra, Ms Gloria Akuffo, the Minister of Justice and Attorney General  among other top business executives within the local and international community.

The musical performance was organised by the Classical Music Association of Ghana (CMAG) in partnership with the Opera Mauritius with support from the Ministry of Arts and Culture of Mauritius, as part of efforts to provide alternative executive entertainment in the country.

The audience were treated to contemporary classical pieces such as the Hallelujah, Ave Maria, Agnus Dei, Panis Angelicus, O Holy City, O Sole Mio, Granada, Casta Diva among others.Singer Amerally excited the audience with her audacious mauritian folklore such as Zimaz, creoline, Zoli Madam, Zistwar enn fler, mo sega and protegez Li.

Lawyer Alex K. Osei-Owusu, the Chairman of CMAG, said the event was to create awareness about classical music and make the country the hub of classical music in the sub-region. He said the concert was not only meant to entertain music lovers with a pulsating experience, but also nurture and encourage a new generation of classical and opera music groups in the country.

He said a nine-member team of Opera Mauritius were in Accra and Kumasi in July 2017 for its maiden shows and that this year’s event was better. He expressed the hope that the concert would be sustained to deepen the cooperation between the two countries. Lawyer Osei-Owusu said he was looking forward to the time when people from the sub-region and elsewhere in Africa will come to Ghana to attend classical music festivals.
