Former President Jerry Rawlings has lauded Ghanaian farmers on this year's National Farmers' Day, and said their toil, sweat, dedication and hard work to sustain the economy is worthy of celebration.
He said farmers were being honoured for feeding the ever-growing population, providing raw material for factories and contributing substantial revenue, especially foreign exchange, to the national coffers.
Former President Rawlings, in a statement issued by his office to mark this year's Farmers' Day being celebrated on Friday at Abokobi in the Greater Accra Region, said any country that was not capable of feeding itself could not talk of economic development.
