The total number of Bangladesh's mobile phone subscribers reached 51.4 million at the end of October with addition of 6.76 million new users in the first 10 months of this year, statistics of the country's telecom regulator showed on Tuesday.
Of the total subscription in January-October period, the Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC) data showed the South Asian
country's mobile phone operators sold 1.0 million new connections in October.
The cell phone operators added 1.49 million new subscribers in September, 940,000 in August, 1.28 million in July, 280,000 in June, 280,000
in May, 380,000 in April, 540,000 in March, 470,000 in February and 100,000 in January this year, it showed.
The latest BTRC data showed, the number of subscribers of the six cell phone operators -- Grameenphone, Banglalink, Aktel, Citycell, Teletalk and Warid -- at the end of October stood at 22. 30 million, 12.27 million, 10.99 million, 1.98 million, 1.07 million and 2.79 million respectively.
In 2008, the country's six cell phone companies added 10.27 million new subscribers, posting an impressive 30 percent growth compared with that in
2007.
