The government of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) and the UN mission in the war-torn central African country launched a stabilization and recovery fund, the government announced on Sunday in a press release.
The administration council of the stabilization and recovery fund for the DRC held its first meeting on Friday in the capital Kinshasa under the leadership of Prime Minister Adolphe Muzito and Alan Doss, the head of the UN mission in the country MONUC.
The administration council, the Congolese government, MONUC and financial supporters will collectively decide on the allocations and the
activities to be supported, the press release said.
Muzito said the populations are already seeing the first concrete achievements of the plan for stabilization and reconstruction in the east of the country, known as STAREC.
"With the launch of these funds, we have been completely mobilized and ready to accelerate the benefits of the same populations," the prime
minister declared.
He expressed thanks to the United Nations and the international community for the support and "the spirit of complete collaboration with the
government for the benefit of the Congolese."
Doss said the implementation of STAREC and the launch of stabilization and recovery fund are examples of how the United Nations and the
international partners intervene in the DRC, and in support to the national authorities.
"With the support of donors like the Netherlands and Belgium, our efforts on the ground will be intensified," the MONUC head pledged.
In support breakdown, 20 million U. S. dollars have been offered the UN for STAREC, 2.7 million dollars have been given by the Netherlands and Belgium has pledged at least 6 million euros (9 million dollars) for the fight against sexual violence.
