Thirty-five unemployed people drawn from Adomfe, Asankare and Bompata in the Asante Akim South District have benefited from a week-long training in soap making at Bompata.
The training, which was organized under the Rural Enterprises Project (REP) in collaboration with The Hunger Project Ghana, was to equip the participants with employable skills to help reduce unemployment in the rural areas.
The participants were trained in the production of liquid and powdered soap.
Mr. Agyapong Aikins, the District Head of the Business Advisory Centre (BAC), implementers of the REP, said his outfit and the Hunger Project were both committed to complementing government's efforts at reducing poverty in rural areas.
He said he was concerned about the inability of beneficiaries of such training to start their own businesses to achieve the purpose of the project.
Mr Aikins said the situation was not only a disincentive to the sustainability of the project but also a waste of resources and urged the participants to justify their participation by going into full scale production after the training.
Mr. De-graft Fokuo, the District Chief Executive, commended the two organisations for their immense contribution to the fight against poverty in the district over the years.
