Ecobank Ghana has entered into a strategic partnership with the State Housing Corporation to expand access to affordable mortgage financing for Ghanaians, particularly middle and low income earners.
The partnership is aimed at supporting home ownership and easing the country’s housing deficit through flexible mortgage solutions tied to State Housing developments across the country. Under the arrangement, Ecobank Ghana would provide mortgage financing at competitive rates while State Housing would focus on delivering reasonably priced homes using cost saving technology.
Speaking at the signing ceremony, Executive Director and Regional Head of Consumer Banking for Ecobank Ghana and Anglophone West Africa, Tara Squire, said the bank was confident the pricing of the homes and mortgage packages would be attractive to Ghanaians. He noted that as interest rates continued to decline, Ecobank remained committed to offering the best possible mortgage rates through the partnership. He added that State Housing’s use of technology to reduce construction costs aligned with the bank’s goal of pushing affordability further.
Deputy Managing Director of the State Housing Corporation, Hon. Samuel Atukwei Kwei, said Ghana’s housing deficit of about two million units makes partnerships like this critical. He explained that many middle and low income earners struggle with financing, and the collaboration with Ecobank would address that gap. He said housing prices would depend on location and house type, but the partnership was expected to make homes more affordable. According to him, the mortgage facility was open to both public and private sector workers with sustained income, and housing projects would be available in Accra and across the country, including upcoming developments in the Savannah Region.
Honorable Kwei disclosed that the partnership would also support individuals who had started building projects but lacked funds to complete them, noting that State Housing and Ecobank would work together to help more Ghanaians own homes.
