Newmont’s Ahafo North mine in Ghana has made notable strides in gender inclusion, with women now making up 31percent of the workforce.
Mr. Charles Bissue, General Manager, Ahafo North mine made this known at 2025 end of year media soiree in Sunyani to celebrate the media for a strong collaboration between Newmont and media personnel in the Bono and Ahafo Regions.
He pointed out the mine’s commitment to diversity and inclusion, emphasizing the importance of partnerships with local communities and stakeholders.
Mr. Bissue praised the media for their role in promoting transparency and accuracy in reporting on the mine operations.
He urged the media to continue striving for balance and accuracy in their reporting, emphasizing the importance of responsible journalism in maintaining trust and goodwill between the mine and local communities.
The Ahafo North mine, which officially opened in October, is projected to create thousands of jobs and contribute significantly to national revenue saying the mine has also prioritized local hiring and community representation, with over 800 Ghanaian suppliers been part of its value chain, the general manager stated.
The mine has also made progress in its resettlement program, with 217 new houses under construction, saying several of the homes have been completed in Adrobaa to offer new beginnings and improve living conditions for many families.
He mentioned that the mines has delivered free medical care to over 700 individuals through it partnership with project Commission on urgent Relief and Equipment (C.U. R.E) and even wish to expand it in the coming year to reach more people in need as part of it commitment to the health and welfare of the people in the community.
