Ninety senior officers of the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) have ended a week-long ‘General Competency Development Programme,’ at the GRA Training Academy at Kpetoe in the Agotime-Ziope District of the Volta Region.
The objective was to build their competencies for improved performance.
Among the participants were assistant, senior and principal revenue officers.
The training topics included understanding leadership, excellence in service delivery, ethics and code of conduct for public servants and effective office communication such as memos, letters, reports and minutes writing.
At the opening of the training programme last Monday, the Assistant Commissioner of the GRA Technical Training, William Ofori-Attah, said the GRA was undergoing continuous transformation, which also requires the transformation of the personnel who serve at its core.
He said senior officers of the authority were not just technical staff, but were also leaders, whether by role, responsibility or influence.
“Your conduct, performance and mindset directly impact the image and effectiveness of the GRA,” Mr Ofori-Attah added, saying the programme’s principal objective was to sharpen and deepen the participants' knowledge and improve their service delivery.
The GRA assistant commissioner said the training would add value to the performances of the senior officers, prepare them for higher responsibilities and build a culture of professionalism among them.
A Deputy Commissioner, Training and Development, Augustine Adjei-Sefa, said that this year, the authority had set a target of GHc220 billion.
He said revenue collection was not the responsibility of the operations division of the authority alone, but required the support services division to maximise revenue collection.
“We can only grow as an organisation when we transform our attitudes, mindset and conduct towards work,” he said.
