betPawa, the biggest gaming brand in Africa, celebrated winners on their aviator platform in Ghana. Borah Omary, Head of Local Marketing and CSR at betPawa, expressed excitement about the incredible stories of winners being celebrated. Speaking at the event, Ms. Omary noted that eight players won in the same round across Ghana, Cameroon, and Zambia, but only two of the winners were present in Ghana. The wins were part of a historic event where players won over $1.1 million in a single round on the betPawa platform, marking the largest group win in a single round in Africa. "While others dream of cars and watches, Prince dreams of a proper roof over his family's head," Ms.Borah emphasized. "This is why we built this platform, to change lives for the better,"she added.
In an interview, Bora Omary explained that betPawa was not only celebrating the wins of the eight Aviator players but also organizing a financial empowerment program to help them invest their winnings wisely. She emphasized the importance of responsible gaming and ensuring that the winners spent their money wisely to build their lives.
Gabriel Opoku-Assan, Chief Public Affairs Officer at PawaTech, highlighted the importance of responsible gaming as an integral part of betPawa's strategy. He explained that PawaTech, the parent company of betPawa, operated across 17 countries in Africa with around 17 million customers. Mr Opoku-Assan outlined the company's PEP framework for responsible gaming, which included Prevention, Education, and Protection measures to ensure players had a safe and enjoyable experience on the platform.
Jonah Asamoah-Nyarko, Senior Officer, Research at the Gaming Commission, emphasized the importance of responsible gaming and seeking support when necessary. He noted that the Gaming Commission had rolled out programs to support individuals with gambling addiction issues, including a toll-free line (0800-454545) where staff attended to those in need of help. The Commission also collaborated with the Mental Health Authority to address gambling addiction problems. Mr Asamoah-Nyarko stressed that gaming could be addictive and reminded attendees that it was not suitable for persons under 18 years.
The winners included Prince from Ghana, a former illegal miner (galamsey), and Sydney from Zambia, who won two million Ghana Cedis and Three Million Two Hundred and Fifty Kwacha respectively. Prince said all he wanted was a decent place for his family to live. That dream was now within reach, thanks to a GH¢6 bet on betPawa’s Aviator platform. Both winners expressed joy at their win and thanked betPawa for changing their lives.
