MTN Ghana has officially handed over a cutting-edge ICT Centre to Yilo Krobo Senior High School in the Eastern Region, demonstrating its commitment to education, technology, and Ghana's youth. The facility, valued at GHS 1,289,518.13, is equipped with 40 modern desktop computers and two interactive smart boards, providing a great learning experience for students.
According to Mr Isaac Mate, General Manager of Sustainability and Shared Value at MTN Ghana, the company recognizes education as essential, requiring significant investment to ensure every child has the opportunity to learn and thrive. “The MTN Ghana Foundation has invested in education, providing infrastructure and tools to empower teaching and learning across Ghanaian communities,” he said.
Mr Philip Narh Donkor, Headmaster of Yilo Krobo Senior High School, expressed his gratitude to MTN for providing the students with a cutting-edge ICT facility. He emphasized that technology was no longer a luxury, but a necessity, and thanked MTN for offering the students an opportunity to compete globally.
Mr Donkor revealed that the school was undergoing a transformation to become a smart school, having already introduced features such as Google Classroom, e-exact, and a local area network for staff. The school had also implemented a biometric system for staff attendance and plans to set up a digital security post to monitor student attendance using AI (Artificial Intelligence), e-books (electronic), and smart pens, as well as conduct internal exams online. Mr Donkor announced plans to make the center an MTN Digital Skills Academy and called on the government to support their plans.
Robert Kuzoe, Senior Manager at the MTN Ghana Foundation, urged students and school authorities to maintain the facility to ensure its sustainability for future generations. “We encourage both students and teachers to fully utilize this resource to enhance learning and innovation,” he noted.
The Director of Science Education Unit of the Ghana Education Service (GES) , Mrs Olivia Serwaa Opare, speaking on behalf of Eastern Regional Minister Ms. Rita Awartey, expressed the minister's support for Yilo Krobo Senior High School and her commitment to promoting better learning outcomes. Mrs Opare also commended MTN for their support, noting that the Minister donated GHS 10,000 in support of the school, demonstrating the government's dedication to enhancing education in the region.
