Agricgate Edutech Limited has launched a website to provide learning materials on agriculture to farmers and prospective farmers in Ghana.
The Project Coordinator at Agricgate, Mabel Sedem Adzimah described the platform as an innovative online hub dedicated to equipping individuals with the necessary knowledge and skills for success in agriculture.
The event was on the theme “Innovate, Educate, Empower”.
Ms Adzimah highlighted that “agricgate.farm” offered a comprehensive ecosystem, providing top-tier agricultural training and resources, as well as a robust e-commerce space for farmers to market their produce.
“Agricgate.Farm is poised to become the go-to destination for all things agriculture-related”, she stated, adding that platform would target individuals, corporate entities involved in agriculture, and government agencies in West African countries among others.
The Chief Executive Officer of Agricgate Edutech Ltd, Felix Appiah, stated that the website would offer free training resources and courses on topics such as farm management and crop scouting, enabling individuals to kickstart their farming businesses.
He mentioned the platform's goal of linking farmers with markets and providing entrepreneurship opportunities beyond farming so that individuals could start small backyard farms and be self-sufficient.
According to Mr Appiah, previously, prospective farmers were compelled to invest substantial sums in traveling to remote areas for face-to-face training or hiring expensive specialists.
For him, the platform would offer a wealth of instructional videos demonstrating diverse farming techniques, significantly enhancing an individuals' learning journey.
A Deputy Minister for Crops at the Ministry of Food and Agriculture, Yaw Frimpong Addo, commended Agricgate for its efforts in educating the public about agriculture.
He advised individuals who had the intention of going into farming to approach agriculture as a business rather than a hobby, stressing the importance of passion and hands-on involvement.
“Agriculture is something that you must have a passion for, and it should be; if not for yourself direct supervision”, he said.
Mr Addo also underscored the significance of collaboration and resource-sharing among agriculture-related organisations to tackle industry challenges.
