Who would say no to a hot, spicy, and tasty meal from Papaye? I guess only a few people would. Papaye Fasts Foods is one of the fast-growing fast-food joints in Accra, Ghana. Since it was established in the 1990s, its foods have been enjoyed by many to this day.
Papaye Fast Foods started actual operation in December 1991 but was incorporated under the Companies Act, 2019 (Act 992) as a Limited Liability Company in November 1990. Samir Kalmoni, also known as Nana Kweku Asabri II, Nkosuohene of Konkonuru in the Eastern region is the owner of Papaye restaurant. He started the business with only 12 workers in 1991. Today, Papaye’s staff base has grown to more than 600 workers.
Its menu includes fries, chicken, fish, appetizers and salads, burgers, sandwiches, and desserts. Papaye also provides breakfast and catering options. Following the modern trend, it offers online ordering services for customers who want food delivered to their homes or offices.
Apart from operating as a restaurant, Papaye also embarks on Corporate Social Responsibility activities. These include the drilling of boreholes for the Konkonuru community, the construction of a clinic, and providing sponsorship to some educational institutions. Its “Our Day Special” initiative seeks to reward the best three students in each class from selected schools. The award involves scholarships, trophies, and books- geared toward promoting academic excellence.
To reach out to its numerous customers, Papaye fast foods has several branches scattered across Accra. The first branch was opened in 1991, at Osu RE, on the Oxford Street. In December 2003, the second branch was opened on the Spintex road off the Accra-Tema motorway. The third branch which is located in Tesano, Apenkwa was opened on the 4th of November, 2005. Papaye’s fourth branch became operational in Tema Community 2 in November 2015. Three years later, Lapaz received the fifth branch. Additional branches were opened at Kaneshie (2019), Haatso (2020), Weija-Bortianor (2022), and Frafraha (2022).
