The Veterinary Services Department says it is yet to receive funds that have been allocated to it by the Ministry of Finance to compensate farmers whose birds were affected by an outbreak of bird flu in July last year.
The veterinary services department has been at the forefront of dealing with constant outbreaks of bird flu in the country which has led to the killing of thousands of birds.
Aside from disinfecting affected farms and killing affected birds the department is also to see to the distribution of monies which has been approved by parliament to be used as compensation for farmers who have been affected by the disease.
However, despite the fact that parliament gave approval for a sum of 44 million Ghana cedis to be given to affected poultry farmers in January, the farmers say they are yet to receive their compensation.
Addressing the issue to Citi Business News, sources from the veterinary services department urged poultry farmers to exercise restraint as they will be compensated as soon as the money is made available to them.
