Leading African digital payments company with presence in over 20 African countries, DPO Group has partnered with Mastercard to help local businesses improve their online business and digital payments options with safe and secure payment solutions.
Speaking to the media in Accra,on 27th January, 2022, DPO’s Head of Business Development and Country Manager for Ghana, Manasseh Narh said that having received their license from the Central Bank of Ghana, their aim was to build end to end payment solutions that virtually connect businesses with their customers. He said that these payment options are tailored to meet the needs of businesses of any size. The options include payments via cards of any type, Mobile Money ‘MoMo’, Quick Response ‘QR’ Codes and bank transfers.
Their solutions cut across various sectors from education to insurance, hotel and tourism as well as retail and e-commerce.
He disclosed that DPO had grown rapidly in the last six years serving over 60,000 merchants in over 20 countries in Africa including Ghana.
“In October 2021, we became part of a bigger family after a landmark acquisition by Network International, one of the Mobile giants in the payment space, headquartered in Dubai in the UAE”. He noted that DPO and NI’s partnership meant that they would continue to do what they did best; build new solutions that would meet the growing needs of the African entrepreneur.
Mr Narh said that the collaboration played a role advancing Mastercard’s worldwide commitment to financial inclusion to bring a total of 1 billion people and 50 million micro and small businesses into the digital economy by 2025.
Mr Bossman Kwapong, Country Director, Ghana, Mastercard said that businesses faced an overwhelming pressure and were committed to supporting them as they adapted to meet ever evolving customer needs.
“This collaboration has the potential to empower every business with the tools they need to take their operations online and be more competitive in the ever expanding digital economy’ he added.
He noted that though COVID highlighted a number of constraints for business, there are opportunities that have come with the pandemic such as an exponential growth in e-commerce and the digital landscape at a rate of about 120 per cent.
He said Mastercard aims to promote the use of electronic payments rather than cash as it burdens the economy to a point of about two percent of Ghana’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP).
The use of Mobile Money has been central to this growth and DPO’s payments platform supports these payment methods alongside traditional currencies and payment methods.
Regional Director for Ghana, Liberia, Sierra Leone and Gambia at Network International (NI) as well as Managing Director for Ghana, Perry Addo-Quaye said that NI offers services to 16 out of the 23 banks in Ghana. He said that NI acquired DPO for US230 million dollars after identifying them as a market leader in the merchant space.
He stated that DPO provides excellent solutions in areas such as fraud monitoring solutions, analytics and so on.
Despite Network International’s acquisition of DPO, it continues to operate under the same brand in existing territories and will be launching a new comprehensive payment solution ‘DPO Pay’ for businesses across Africa and other territories.
