Uber has partnered with Vodafone to enable its customers to access to its new service, ‘Uber Connect’ without data charges. The contactless delivery service ensures that friends and families can still share special moments with those who matter to them without any physical contact during this COVID19 period. Uber Connect is an affordable same-day delivery service that allows customers to send much-needed packages to family and friends. The service has been zero-rated on Vodafone’s network, which means the Telco’s customers will not incur any data charges during usage but only pay for the delivery fees.

Speaking on the initiative, Jessica Poku, Country Manager of Uber Ghana, said Uber Connect was introduced to help people stay home and connect to those who matter most to them. “During this challenging time, we believe in driving down costs for drivers and riders to provide some relief, and our partnership with Vodafone will help make this happen. With this package, riders who use Vodafone now have the unique opportunity to request a ride or to deliver a package without data charges, an option only available on Uber. Whether it’s a care package for a loved one, a board game for a friend’s birthday or some home-baked cupcakes, customers can have it delivered by requesting ‘Uber Connect’ through the Uber app”. Commenting on the partnership, Pushpinder Gujral, Consumer Business Director at Vodafone Ghana, said:

This partnership provides a creative alternative for Vodafone and Uber users to send packages and gifts to their loved ones whilst at home while. Uber Connect is currently available in Accra and Kumasi. To use Uber Connect, users will package the items in a sealed box or bag, wiping down surfaces with disinfectant.

Last year, Vodafone Ghana and Uber entered into a mutually beneficial partnership that enables their respective subscribers and riders request an Uber ride without data charges. This benefit has now extended to Uber Connect, allowing users to access the delivery offering for free, while only paying the delivery fee.
