Standard Chartered (-5.60%) closed lower, moderating the GSE Composite Index by 1.17 points (-0.05%) to settle at 2,150.66 with a YTD return of -16.39% despite gains in four financial counters. Market capitalization (-0.02%) was pegged at GH¢55.53 billion.
CAL Bank (14.29%), Enterprise Group (8.02%), Societe Generale (1.72%) and Ecobank Ghana (0.64%) were the advancers at the session.
Consequently, the GSE Financial Index traded 2.17 points (-0.12%) lower, closing at 1,808.52 with a year-to-date return of -16.03%.
The SAS Manufacturing Index remained unchanged for the thirteenth successive session at 3.623.32 with a -22.13% year-to-date return.
Trading activity weakened as 89,805 shares valued at GH¢244,516 changed hands compared with 622,410 shares valued at GH¢546,513 in the previous session. Enterprise Group dominated trades by volume, accounting for 51.33% of total volume traded while Ecobank Ghana dominated by value, accounting for 49.96% of the total value traded.
We expect trading activity to pick up as investors await more earnings announcements.
