The stock market stayed low as it begun the second quarter. The Composite Index (CI) dropped 10.08 points from the previous week’s 2,454.51 points. This led to a year-to-date loss of 0.41%.
The Financial Stock Index fell back to losses after making a slight gain a week ago. The index closed the week with a year-to-date loss of 0.55%, trailing 62 basis points from the previous week’s gain of 0.07%.
The market capitalization was GH¢59.63 billion, down 0.20% from GH¢59.75 billion the previous week.
By close of week, the shares of 12 companies `were exchanged on the bourse compared to 21 companies the previous week. Trading resulted in six losers but no gainer and the share price of six companies remained unchanged.
ETI led the pack of losers with 6.67% dip to close at GH¢0.14. SIC followed with a 6.67% dip to close the week at GH¢0.14.
Though the number of companies that had their shares traded was nine less than the previous week, total volume traded surged 106% to record a total of 1.65 million shares. This was valued at GH¢3.4 million by close of week.
GOIL emerged as the most liquid stock by trading 43% of market volume, with the share price losing 3.19% to close at GH¢2.43. MTNGH and ETI followed with a contribution of 36% and 9% respectively to total volume.
OUTLOOK
In the coming week, analyst expects prices to remain relatively low. However the price of CAL , GOIL and SIC may drop due to excess supply.
In the news, AGA announced the converted Final Dividend of 76 South African cents per share. The company further stated that AGA will pay a dividend of GH¢0.2931 per share to its ordinary shareholders and a GH¢0.002931 on its Depositary shares. Payment dates for both groups is April 08, 2019.
SCB announced a dividend of GH¢0.0471 per preference share in respect of the dividend period 31st March, 2019 to 30th September, 2019. The Dividend Rate (interest) is 18.1595%.
On the Fixed Income front, total volume amounted to GH¢649 million, 44% less than the previous week’s GH¢1.17 billion. Of the total volume 91% were traded on the CSD platform while the remaining 9% traded on the Bloomberg platform. Some securities that traded were the GoG Bonds, Treasury Bill, and ESLA Bonds.
