The facility which would accommodate over 100 beads makers has been completed, but yet to be commissioned for use by the beneficiaries.

The structure will afford the beads makers the opportunity to make the beads at a convenient place before taking the finished products  to the market for sale.

 GEPA has also contracted the services of experts to design working tools to aid them to do fascinating designs that could meet international standards.

The facility was inspected, when the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Ghana Export Promotion Authority (GEPA), Ms Afua Asabea Asare paid a working visit to the region.

The visit was intended to identify some of the challenges confronting the exporters in the Eastern Region to put the authority in a better position when formulating policies.

The Chief of Abompe, Barimah Kwabena Addo II said, the special stone ''bauxite '' used for producing the beads has other benefits, indicating that the byproduct of the stone which is the waste water can also be used to produce paint.

He commended the institution for their effort made towards the upgrading and uplifting of the only economically viable business in the town.

Ms Asare said, apart from the shelter to house the beads makers, GEPA, was also planning to support them in acquiring the best of tools and train them on new designs that the market required.

She said, it was time to help modernise the tools used in the production of the beads  and take the whole business to another level, where it could be economically viable for the people and the country.

She said much effort were put into the beads making, but might not be getting the right recognition, because the required target on the market was not met.

''The beads are very beautiful, however, there are so many things that could be done to make it more attractive '', she stressed.

Ms Asare said, the special stone ''bauxite'' used in producing the beads could  also be  used in making durable buttons and nice designs to fit locally sown dresses for the international market.

Beads and buttons made from the "bauxite stone" are being patronised locally, however, GEPA was looking at how in the long term it could make it unto the international market with new shapes, styles and designs.
