The fair, which is a biennial event, commenced on Thursday, December 13 is scheduled to end on December 23.It is expected to serve as a platform for local artisans and entrepreneurs to showcase their works.

When the Ghana News Agency visited to the AACD - African Market on Thursday at the East Legon near ‘A and C’ Mall, seven exhibitors have opened up their stalls for patronage.Some of the artefacts displayed at the Market were antiques, carvings, beaded materials, hats, African prints and bags among others.

Mr Stanley S. Felten, the Chief Executive officer of the AACD-African Market, said the fair was put together to motivate young artisans and also preserve our rich culture.

He said apart from the seven exhibitors present, more local artisans are expected to join the big market day on Saturday, December 15 and continue till the last day.

Mr Felten said there is the need for Ghanaians to patronise and promote locally made products to sustain the agenda of a Ghana beyond Aid.

He said present at the AACD-African Market was also the D’Café, which serves continental dishes like pastries, coffee and smoothies amongst others to take care of the western visitors.

Also present at the Market are the Cross Roads Restaurants to serve local cuisine and Happiness Attieke which serves attieke and aloko for Ivorian visitors.Speaking to some of the exhibitors, Mr Razak Adams, a designer of masks and carvings, said although many Ghanaians patronise the works, many more foreigners patronised them in the seventh edition.

Twinnies Worship Creations, makers of African Products, were present at the market with African prints, necklaces, bags, and shoes.Madam Worship Attaa Dufie, a Co-Founder of the Twinnies Worship Creations, said in the last edition, sales were better and expressed the hope that sales would improve.  Other exhibitors include Naadjoa Beads, Nulam Entreprise and ThickTallMan Hats.
