Process and Plant Automation has in collaboration with CHiNT donated Solar Photovoltaics (PV) systems to the Ghana Institute of Engineering (GHiE) at a ceremony on 6th December, 2018 at the Ghhana Institute of Engineers in Roman Ridge, Accra.
Speaking to the media after the commissioning, Ing. Kweku Asmah Founder of Process and Plant Automation, an electrical engineering solutions provider said that they agreed to this initiative because it supports best practice in Ghana. He noted that there is the need for a state of the art equipment which demonstrates Ghana's decision to go green.
Ing Asmah said that the system offers affordable reduction in electricity costs adding that the GhIE as an institution is advocating for Ghana to go green hence the partnership with ChiNT
Mr Gary Gan from CHiNT, providers of low-voltage electrical products said that they have across the globe said their focus on renewable energy in Ghana is due to the numerous benefits it offers. He encouraged Ghanaians to learn more about renewable energy saying that CHiNT offers professional services and is ready to offer Ghana more choices to boost production.
Ing. Kwabena Agyei Agyepong, Executive Director of the GhIE said that the essence of the solar PV systems is to promote Ghana going green noting that it can reduce Ghana's expenditure on electricity by 60 per cent per month. He disclosed that the country currently has less than 2 per cent of renewable energy and hoped that by 2057, there will be 30 per cent of renewable energy resources.
He said that the donation also supports smart and greener societies which are part of the Sustainable Development Goals adding that it also sends a signal to the Ghanaian Community that the country's natural resources can be used to benefit society.
Ing Agyapong said that using solar energy will reduce the cost of production in Ghana and improve the lives. He disclosed that its very affordable in comparison to the cost production per unit of electricity. "If you compare the cost of hydro or thermal electricity to solar, it is significantly lower" he stated.
He urged Ghanaians to consider embracing solar energy especially due to the abundance of sunlight and hoped that other businesses will also follow suit.
