Huawei, a leading global provider of information and communications technology (ICT) infrastructure and smart devices has disclosed that they have had 2000 pre-orders for the Y9 2019 device in Ghana instead of the targeted 500 pieces at its launch at Tang Palace Hotel in Accra. The Y9 features latest technology and stylish design at an affordable price of GHS 1,099.00.
Marketing Manager for Huawei Ghana, Mr Dennis Fixon Laryea, in an interview with BusinessGhana said that though Huawei is making high specification devices affordable, government can help them make their brand even more affordable by helping to stabilize the cedi against the dollar. He said that Huawei will do well to bring in smarter devices to push government's digitization agenda.
In a product presentation, Mr Laryea said that the Huawei Y9 has been specifically designed with a bigger screen of 6.5 inches FHD+ to allow for more screen room to operate with a 3D curve and a slimmer body for firmer grip. It is the first device in Ghana to have four upgraded AI (Artificial Intelligence) cameras; two front (16 MP plus 2 MP) and two rear cameras (13 MP plus 2 MP). These are for automatic editing of pictures for posting with fun features like gesture photography and AI scenery recognition. It also has a hand held night mode that saves up light during the day for bright sharp images taken at night.
The 2019 Y9 has an unbeatable battery capacity of 4000 mAh which offers up to 65 hours of music play, 9 hours of video play, 9 hours of gaming and 52 hours of GSM calls. It's intelligent power saver mode prompts users of active applications that are running and how long the phone will last until the next charge. He added that the device comes in three different colors of Midnight Black, Sapphire Blue and Aurora Purple. With customer health and eye sight in mind,it's simple and normal mode offers eye protection using less light for people with eye problems. It also has a face unlock feature with a 3D touch point that picks the face from any angle. Other features like the party mode, Octa-Core Kirin 710 have been included to make the phone worth the while.
The West Africa Managing Director, Mr Simon Liu said that Huawei, which has surpassed Apple to become the world's second largest smartphone maker, has witnessed a year by year increase, likening their growth to giants like Apple and Google with a 21.5 per cent smartphone market share in Middle East and Asia and 21 per cent in Africa.
He said Huawei keeps investing in technology because technology means development. He added that their key top success is ‘glocalization’, that is using local cultural relevance to promote product sales. Huawei also honored some of their key dealers such as Telefonika, Compu-Ghana, Melcom, Franko Trading, Baba Musa and others for their contribution and urged other dealers to work harder.
