Mr Moses N. Ndebugri, the Upper West Regional Manager of Ghana Tourism Authority (GTA), has called for Public-Private-Partnership (PPP) to boost numerous tourism activities and help standardise the industry in the region.
It is expected that PPP collaboration with GTA would help achieve a common goal and improve standards of tourism sites, hotels, foods and other areas of the hospitality industry for patronage in the international market.
“Our tourist sites are yet to be developed to the international standards, so there is the need for private sectors and that of government to come together to undertake these developments,” Mr Ndebugri said.
He was speaking to journalists in Wa during the 2018 World Tourism Day at the University for Development Studies (UDS) Wa Campus, organised under the theme: “Tourism & the Digital Transformation”.
Improvements of restaurants, hotels and chop bars can attract more tourists to visit Ghana’s youngest region if only the places are convenient and standardised. Mr Ndebugri urged stakeholders in the tourism industry to see the registration of their enterprises as very important and attach sincerity to it to avert circumstances leading to business shutdowns.
Department of Environmental and Resource Studies and the Department of Community Development debated on the topic: “Is Digital Marketing Actually Better than Traditional Marketing in Tourism Promotion?”.Department of Community Studies who spoke against the motion was declared winner at the end of the debate and certificates were awarded to the contestants.
