He says as part of the city extension programme, there is a place for industries which would become an enclave for industrial activities, adding that currently, there is an Industrial Park at Dawa with all kinds of industries moving there to establish.

He was addresssing the Ningo Prampram District Assembly (NPDA) Public Hearing on the Medium Term Development Plan (MTDP) to transform the District into an industrial and economic zone within Greater Accra.

“So we don’t want a situation where people would just move out of the District, go and work and come back to sleep, so we’ve taken that challenge head on to create a lot of industries,” he said.

He observed that a lot of industries were springing up from the Kpone junction all the way to Ada “and as a District, we are trying to give waivers for these industries to move to Ningo Prampram because there is no more land in Tema for industrial expansion.”

In an interview with the Ghana News Agency (GNA) Mr. Doku informed that in an attempt to fight poverty in the district, the Assembly would create a lot of mini-dams to make farming a year-long activity and also fight light fishing.

The District Coordinating Director for NPDA, Mr. Benjamin Armah, said they had come to the people with the draft plan because in line with the District Assembly concept which was premised on popular participation in decision making, adding that “if you plan without the citizens, it will fail because the people have to buy into the plan.”

The plan which would be implemented between 2018 and 2021 would address the issue of low academic performance, poor sanitation, poor visibility at night, haphazard physical development, poor state of roads, and difficulty in accessing a market facility.

The Public Hearing brought together a cross section of the Ningo Prampram society including Chiefs, Assembly Members, Opinion leaders, Clan Heads, and Youth Groups.
