It has been assisting to grow local businesses and create jobs by outsourcing contracts to them. Mr. Shadrach Ainoo, the acting Executive General Manager, said it was eager to co-exist peacefully with the people.

Speaking at a stakeholders’ forum held to provide useful insights into the company’s contract and procurement policies at Manso-Nkwanta, he added that, it had put the socio-economic development of the mining operation area at the heart of its thinking. More than 300 people made up of chiefs, assembly members, opinion leaders and local contractors attended.

Mr. Ainoo underlined the unwavering determination of the mine to give support to efforts at lifting the people out of poverty, transform and make things better for them.  Its assistance towards community development projects – education, health, water and sanitation would be sustained.

Mr. William Bediako Asante, the District Chief Executive (DCE), applauded Asanko for being a good corporate citizen and living up to its corporate social responsibility.  Relatedly, Asanko in partnership with Peace and Love Hospital, had organized free breast cancer screening at Manso-Nkwanta, the district capital, as part of the campaign to create awareness and encourage the early report of the cancer to the hospital for treatment.

Over 500 women benefitted from the exercise.

Mrs. Bridget Nortey Mensah, a Physician Assistant, advised women to make sure that they promptly sought the help of medical professionals for any anomaly detected in the breast. They should not wait for their situation to worsen – when it becomes too late to be saved by doctors.
