The Nyakrom Rural Bank Limited, has organized sensitization workshop to update members of its local union of the Industrial and Commercial Union (ICU) on the vision and development of the bank.
The formation of the ICU of the bank is to fulfil its constitutional obligations to enable workers perform their required functions in the rural the banking industry.
Mr. Timothy Ewudzie Osam – Duodu, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Nyakrom Rural Bank Ltd, in his opening remarks, commended the Union Members for their high sense of direction and foresight in the formation of the ICU saying it will enhance the future prospects of the bank.
The Board Chairman said Nyakrom Rural Bank Ltd, first Rural Bank was established on 9th July, 1976 in Ghana to boost rural economy in the areas of agriculture, education, health, commerce, transport and among others, to improve the livelihood of the rural people.
He said the aims and objectives of Local ICU should be protected to raise good image of the bank among the 141 rural and community’s banks in the country. Mr. Osam Duodu hinted that the bank had won prestigious awards from government, Non-government organizations and both local and international for hard work and excellent banking services.
He urged the workers to go the extra mile to improve deposits, and the general operations of the Bank. He said the Board and Management have put in place measures to increase the deposited base and share capital of the bank.
Mr. Francis Kofi Lawoe, Credit Manager of Nyakrom Rural Bank Ltd, said banking in Agona West and Agona East has become highly competitive and challenging and asked workers not to allow themselves to be overshadowed by big banks.
He urged the workers to continue to hold bank’s vision, mission and core values to forge ahead to enable the bank maintain its image as pioneering rural bank in Ghana. Mr. Lawoe advised the front-line staffs, cashiers, customer care, counter clerks, mobile bankers and monitors to know that they are the face of the bank.
Mr. Emmanuel Fiifi Quarm. Local Chairman of the ICU of Nyakrom Rural Bank said it was an undisputable fact that the Nyakrom ICU is the strongest among all the rural banks in the catchment area which gives them the impetus to work hard to achieve its target.
The local Union Chairman commended that Supervising Manager of Nyakrom Rural Bank Ltd, Mr. Samuel Adjamah Codjoe for his foresight and advised the members to stay focused and committed to enable the bank to achieve target set for 2020 in the rural banking.
Mr. Emmanuel Benimah, Deputy General Secretary, ICU commended the Nyakrom Rural Bank workers for their bold initiative in forming the ICU to fight for a common goal and progress of the bank.
He expressed the hope that workers would not use the ICU to create bad relations between the Management, Board and Senior Staffs with unnecessary labour unrest.
He said the Association of Rural Banks and Industrial (ICU) have concluded deal to issue a of Collective Bargaining certificate to assist the local union to negotiate salaries and better condition of services with Management and board.
Mr. Benimah said the move would reduce labour unrest, strike actions and wrongful dismissal of workers which could lead to workers agitations.
