Organisations and individuals in the energy sector have been awarded for their contribution, innovation and excellence to the success of the industry at the 3rd Oil and Gas Awards for 2016.
Dr Kofi Abban of Rigworld emerged the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the year for the upstream while Mrs Abigail Harley of AI Energy won the CEO of the year for downstream. Tullow won the exploration and Production Company of the year, Conship won the logistic and Transport Company of the year, Ringworld was adjudged indigenous oil and Gas Company of the year, while Top oil won the oil marketing company of the year.
Other awards include Tullow Ghana Limited, winning the best Ghanaian content initiative, Regional Maritime University won the oil and gas training institution while HFC Bank won the oil and gas financial institution of the year.
The ceremony was on the theme: “The challenges of Surviving in Low Oil prices.”
Mr Charles Darku, Managing Director of Tullow Ghana Limited won the most outstanding oil and gas personality of the year. Mr Darku thanked organisers for the award, saying the gesture would spur him and the organisation to deliver on its objectives. He said this year the jubilee field’s FPSO Kwame Nkrumah suffered a challenge with its turret bearing, which affected operations, adding that through the hard work of its engineers, operations has now been brought to normal level.
Dr Darku said his outfit remained committed to building the capacity of Ghanaian companies to participate fully in the oil and gas industry, saying Tullow has over the years provided support to education and made strides to the development of communities its operate.
Mr Gilbert Da Costa, Editor in-Chief of Offshore Ghana Magazine, organisers of the ceremony said the theme was designed not only for the celebration of excellence but also an opportunity to share knowledge and skills.
He said the award ceremony received high quality applications and nominations from international and indigenous companies and commended panel of judges for their commitment in acting with impartiality.
