The decision, according to the company, is in line with its diversification drive to provide total logistics supply chain management services.   

The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the company, Mr Ray Snowden, disclosed this in an interview with the media during a family health walk event organised as part of the company’s efforts to promote a healthy workforce culture.

According to him, a memorandum of understanding (MoU) signed between the company and its partners from Benin, Gabon, Burkina Faso and Togo would allow the company to expand its operations by providing shipping services within the West African Sub-region.

“We want to take our operations beyond Ghana and to gradually make a big stride in gaining international recognition by being a one-stop shop for total logistics supply chain management,” he stated.  

 The three-kilometre walk, which started from Ayi Mensah to the Peduase Lodge at Aburi was well attended as most staff members were accompanied by their families and friends.

Mr Snowden indicated: “A healthy workforce is a productive workforce as such the need to inculcate exercising and staying fit in order to project the company’s values.”

“It is important to keep a balance between your work and health. Red Sea is committed to the cause of ensuring that our workers are healthy because we believe a healthy mind is pivotal to productivity,” he said.

He further explained that the event was part of the company’s corporate strategy to raise funds in order to drive its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiatives and also hinted at plans for the company to consider organising similar events quarterly.

Healthy living

In his address, the Medical Director for Health Essentials, Dr Kojo Essel, entreated the staff to appreciate the benefits of healthy living.

According to him, lack of exercise, bad eating habits coupled with alcohol abuse and smoking would increase the risk of contracting cardiovascular diseases, which is the major cause of death in Ghana.   

To this end, he implored the staff to dedicate at least 30 minutes of their time every day to exercising.

The Head of Human Resource at Red Sea Maritime Services, Ms Dede Offei, for her part, expressed satisfaction at the event, which she said was necessary for fostering better relations among workers and a way for staff to get closer to management.  

“It is a way of bringing workers close to management and to ensure networking among the various departments of the company,” she added.

The event was climaxed with an aerobics session and a family picnic at the Aburi Botanical Gardens
