The Chief Information Officer (CIO) of MTN Ghana, Mr. Mazen Mroue, has been appointed as the Chief Executive Officer of MTN Liberia, after 13 years of dedicated “service” at MTN Ghana.
A statement issued in Accra on Thursday said the appointment, which took effect from March 13, 2011 was announced by the immediate past MTN Group President and CEO, Mr. Phuthuma Nhleko.
During his tenure with MTN Ghana, Mazen was chairman of the product and services committee, chairman for the Broad Band and Data Services and chairman for the Business Continuity Planning Committee.
It listed some of his achievements as deployment of some MTN innovative services, which include Mobile Banking, Seamless Roaming and Dynamic Charging & Discounting.
In a farewell message by Mr. Brett Goschen, the immediate past CEO of MTN Ghana, he said: “Besides Mazen’s invaluable contribution as
CIO, what really stands out for me is his inputs into the strategic direction of the company and broader business issues.
“Mazen often under his own accord, assumed responsibility for projects and initiatives outside his job profile, some recent examples being MTN Business solutions, Mobile Number Portability and Offshore Broadband.”
Mazen joined the Ghana operation (Scancom Ltd) in 1999 as a Business Support Manager but was quickly promoted as Information Technology Manager in 2000.
In 2006, he was appointed as the Chief Information Officer when MTN acquired Investcom. He was the head of the Business Solutions division of MTN until his latest appointment.
Mazen holds a Master’s Degree in Engineering Intellectual Systems & Networks and completed the Executive Program for Leadership Development at Harvard Business School, in 2007.
