The South Korean capital of Seoul is the third-most networked city in the world behind Singapore and Stockholm, an industry report showed Tuesday.
Seoul shared the No. 3 position with London in the Networked Society City Index jointly compiled by Ericsson AB, the world's largest maker of mobile-phone networks, and global management consulting firm Arthur D. Little, the companies said in the report.
The report analyzed 25 global cities based on their investment, availability, usage levels of information and communications technology (ICT), as well as the impact of ICT on health care, education, economic output and efficiency.
Singapore and Stockholm were the top two cities with the highest degree of reliance on ICT to deal with social, political and economic issues. Paris and New York were ranked in the No. 4 spot, followed by Tokyo and Los Angeles.
Cities with a high level of reliance on ICT are likely to be more capable of dealing with environmental issues, public security, health care, education and economic issues, the report said.
