The Dormaa Circuit Court has sentenced Kwaku Kumi, a local mason to two years imprisonment for stealing yams and plantain from two farms last October.
Kumi who stole three bunches of plantain from one of the farms and attempted to sell them to the owner of the farm, pleaded guilty to the charge of stealing and was convicted on his own plea.
Police Inspector George Kumah told the court presided by Mr. Alexander Osei Tutu that two farmers from Atesikrom and Koraso, all farming
communities, detected the regular theft of their farm produce and decided to conduct their own investigations.
He said on October 23, this year, a first complainant in the case had information that Kumi had offered some tubers of yam for sale to the second complainant.
Inspector Kumah said the second complainant suspecting the source of the yams, asked Kumi to come for his money in the evening of the following
day.
He said the following day, Kumi carried three bunches of plantain to sell to the second complainant but was arrested for stealing the yams he had brought earlier.
Police Inspector Kumah said investigations revealed that the plantain was stolen from the farm of the man to whom they were offered for sale.
In his caution statement, Kumi admitted committing both thefts and was charged by the police.
