Mercedes-Benz Korea Ltd. said Tuesday that it is voluntarily recalling its luxury C-class and E-class sedans in South Korea due to a possible steering problem.
The recalled vehicles are cars produced between June 1, 2009 and Feb. 28, 2010. The company said it was unable to immediately check the number of vehicles subject to the recall.
Mercedes-Benz, the luxury vehicle unit of German automaker Daimler AG, earlier said the recall will affect about 85,000 vehicles worldwide.
Mercedes-Benz Korea said the recall was due to a defective "connection fitting" of the power steering pump, but the German manufacturer of the luxury vehicles earlier said the defect could lead to loss of power steering fluid, which then could cause loss of control.
Mercedes-Benz Korea said no accidents have been reported in South Korea due to the reported problem.
Owners of the subject vehicles in South Korea may return to a dealership from Oct. 29 for a free inspection and repair, the company said.
