Two thousand (2,000) traditional caterers have been selected from all parts of the country to receive training in customer care, business management and food safety to enhance their trade.
African Aurora Business Network (AABN), an enterprise development organization, is sponsoring the project under its flagship "EATBiz" Programme.
Ms Maureen Erekua Odoi, Programme Coordinator of the Network, said in addition to the training, they would be supported with
technical, financial and advisory services to aid their growth.
She was addressing the opening ceremony of a two-day capacity-building training programme for 25 traditional caterers at the Centre for National
Culture (CNC) in Kumasi.
It was jointly organized by the Ghana Traditional Caterers Association and the AABN.
Ms Odoi said it was unfortunate that in spite of the important role traditional caterers' play in preserving local dishes they
faced significant barriers to growth due to financial, managerial and technical constraints.
She underscored the need for institutional support to help sustain them. Mr Kwame Buor, Ashanti Regional Chairman of the
Association of Small Scale Industry (ASSI), lauded AABN for efforts at assisting to develop the knowledge and skills of the caterers in customer
service.
He said the programme was an important intervention given the fact that about 50 per cent of Ghanaians patronized traditional foods.
