Export of spices from India has got off to an impressive start this year with the overseas export of the major varieties registering an 18 per cent growth in January itself.
While a total of 34,436 tons of spices worth Rs 430 crore were exported in January 2010 against 30,870 tons of commodity priced at Rs 365.43 crore sent abroad during January 2009.
According to Spices Board figures, the trade had gained a record growth battling the ill-effects of global financial crunch which had an adverse impact on all sectors across the world.
Major spices exported from India are cardamom, chilli, garlic, nutmeg, mace. The sale of value-added products likecurry powder, spice oils and oleoresins also registered growth.
