The Executive Director of Adwenpa Construction and Engineering Services Limited, Mr. Julius Kwaku Ankomah on Wednesday disclosed that a cement factory will soon be constructed at Winneba in the Effutu District of the Central Region.
The motive for the new factory is also to generate employment for a large number of people.
According to him, the factory which will have a processing plant with the capacity to produce 3,000 tons of cement per day is expected to employ about 5,000 people.
Mr. Ankomah said the factory which will be named "Central Region Cement" (CENTROCEM) will be operational next year and that the investors,
Sojitz Consortium based in Japan, has its African headquarters in Angola, while the contractors for the project are FLSmidth Engineering Company.
He said CENTROCEM, would have a good pricing system and expressed the hope that its presence will put pressure on other cement companies in the country to reduce their prices.
Mr. Ankomah thanked the Central Regional Development Commission (CEDECOM) for granting them the opportunity to invest in the region and
pledged CENTROCEM's cooperation with them.
For her part, the Central Regional Minister, Mrs. Ama Benyiwa-Doe expressed gratitude to the investors for choosing the Central Region, saying
it will reduce the high unemployment rate in the Region and the country at large.
She appealed to other investors to invest in the Region because it has a large economic potential with a lot of raw materials yet to be tapped.
