Required Skills Expertise in climate accounting and ESG financial integration. Ability to align financial strategies and processes with organizational mission and theory of change. Proven experience in participatory budgeting, donor-funded financial management, and impact investing. Experience in social enterprise finance and innovative financing models. Strong stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to communicate financial insights to diverse audiences. Commitment to environmental and social justice, with a deep understanding of sustainable finance principles. Excellent analytical, strategic thinking, and leadership skills. Qualifications: Master’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, Not-for-Profit Management or a related field. ACCA or CFA certification and membership is preferred. Minimum of 10 years of experience in financial leadership roles, preferably in NGOs, international development, sustainability-focused organizations or corporate sustainability teams. Strong knowledge of financial regulations, grant compliance, and risk management in the non-profit sector, with preference given to demonstrated knowledge of the regulatory environment in Ghana and the USA. Proficiency in financial management software, reporting tools, and sustainability reporting framework.

The Director of Finance will provide strategic financial leadership, ensuring fiscal sustainability, compliance, and transparency while integrating climate accounting, participatory budgeting, and ESG principles into financial decision-making. The DoF will work with senior leadership to support  financial planning, risk management, donor reporting, and impact-driven resource allocation to further The Or Foundation’s mission of catalyzing a Justice-led Circular Economy.

 

Key Responsibilities:

Strategic Financial Leadership

• 
  

  Develop and implement robust financial strategies that align with The Or Foundation’s mission and sustainability goals.

  
  


• 
  

  Lead financial planning, forecasting, and risk management processes.

  
  


• 
  

  Advise the Executive Director, Board of Directors, and senior leadership on impact-driven resource allocation, research and advocacy tools relevant to climate accounting and Extended Producer Responsibility.

  
  

Climate Accounting & ESG Integration

• 
  

  Implement climate accounting methodologies to track and report The Or Foundation’s environmental footprint across both organizational operations and programmatic outputs of alternative product streams and ecological remediation projects.

  Ensure compliance with ESG reporting frameworks and sustainability-focused financial disclosures.

  
  


• 
  

  Collaborate with program teams to integrate environmental impact metrics into program financial planning and decision-making.

  
  

Budgeting & Financial Management

• 
  

  Lead the development and execution of participatory budgeting processes, ensuring transparency, accountability and community involvement.

  
  


• 
  

  Direct  the preparation of annual budgets, financial reports, and audits in compliance with regulatory and donor requirements.

  
  


• 
  

  Monitor financial performance, ensuring efficient allocation of resources to maximize social and environmental impact.

  
  

Fundraising, Grants & Donor Compliance

• 
  

  Develop financial models and strategies to secure and manage grants, donor funding, and social impact investments.

  
  


• 
  

  Ensure compliance with donor regulations and financial reporting requirements.

  
  


• 
  

  Work with organisational leadership to build strong relationships with funders, financial institutions, and strategic partners to enhance funding opportunities.

  
  

Risk & Compliance Management

• 
  

  Strengthen and implement internal financial controls and ensure compliance with local and international financial regulations.

  Identify and proactively mitigate financial risks, including those related to climate change and ESG factors.

  
  


• 
  

  Provide direction and supervision for financial audits, tax filings, and compliance with governmental and NGO sector regulations.

  
  

Team Leadership & Capacity Building

• 
  

  Lead and mentor the finance team, fostering a culture of accountability and continuous improvement.

  
  


• 
  

  Provide training and capacity-building support to staff and community stakeholders on financial literacy, climate accounting, and participatory budgeting.
