The Health and Safety Officer is responsible for developing, implementing, and enforcing organizational safety standards to ensure a safe and compliant work environment. This position involves conducting regular inspections, managing safety programs, training staff on safe practices, and identifying potential hazards to reduce workplace injuries and accidents. The Health and Safety Officer plays a key role in fostering a culture of safety, ensuring regulatory compliance, and promoting best practices in health and safety management.
Key Responsibilities:
Develop and Implement Safety Policies:
- Design, review, and update health and safety policies and procedures in line with legal regulations and industry standards.
- Ensure all safety policies are accessible, up-to-date, and aligned with the organization’s goals.
Conduct Risk Assessments and Inspections:
- Perform regular risk assessments and workplace inspections to identify hazards.
- Monitor and assess potential safety risks in the workplace and recommend corrective measures.
Incident Management and Reporting:
- Investigate incidents, accidents, and near misses to determine their root causes and prevent future occurrences.
- Prepare detailed incident reports and maintain records for regulatory and organizational needs.
Training and Education:
- Conduct safety training sessions for employees on topics such as emergency procedures, use of protective equipment, and safe work practices.
- Promote awareness and adherence to safety protocols across all departments.
Compliance and Audits:
- Ensure the organization complies with local, state, and federal safety regulations.
- Prepare and assist in external audits and inspections from regulatory bodies.
Emergency Response Planning:
- Develop and implement emergency response plans and evacuation procedures.
- Coordinate safety drills and emergency response training for all employees.
Data Collection and Analysis:
- Track and analyze health and safety data, including incident rates and trends.
- Use data to improve safety measures and proactively address potential hazards.
Collaboration and Communication:
- Work with management, HR, and other departments to support health and safety initiatives.
- Serve as the primary point of contact for safety-related concerns and provide advice on safety regulations.
Qualifications:
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in occupational health, safety, environmental science, or a related field.
- Certifications: NEBOSH, OSHA, IOSH, or other relevant health and safety certifications are highly desirable.
- Experience: Proven experience in a health and safety role, preferably within the relevant industry.
- Skills:
- Knowledge of relevant health and safety laws and best practices.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Proficiency in using safety management software and Microsoft Office Suite.

Working Conditions: This role may require visiting different work sites, standing for extended periods, and wearing personal protective equipment (PPE). Some lifting or manual handling may be involved.
